Oral surgery / Implants

Dental implants, apicectomy & extraction of wisdom teeth

Oral surgery includes all surgical interventions such as dental implants or simply called implants.

For many people, selective wisdom tooth extraction is also necessary due to the lack of space in the jaw. The apicectomy is a treatment for inflamed teeth that have undergone root canal treatment. Oral surgery is an important part of dentistry and treats surgical interventions on teeth, mouth and jaw.

Dental implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, or titanium screw, which is inserted into your jaw by an oral surgeon to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Implants can also be strategically placed in a toothless jaw to ensure that dentures are retained. Often only two to four implants are necessary to replace a complete row of teeth in the jaw. We exclusively use the Swiss Implant brand Thommen (www.thommenmedical.com)

Dental implants are the most stable and natural way to replace missing teeth. As an oral surgeon, I can offer you modern dental implants that look, feel and work like your own natural teeth. Dental implants not only look good, but can also help prevent bone loss, gum recession and other oral problems for the patients who come to us in Zurich.

We have extensive experience and expertise in the field of dental implantation. We employ the most advanced dental implant technology. Oral surgery Zurich: Find out more about dental implants in a personal conversation in my practice in Zurich Seefeld.

Wisdom tooth extraction

Oral surgery Zurich - do you have problems with your wisdom teeth? Should you consider wisdom tooth removal before serious problems develop? As an oral surgeon, I have a lot of experience in assessing wisdom teeth and performing wisdom tooth removals (extractions) in our dental practice in Seefeld Zurich.

Often wisdom teeth have to be removed due to lack of space or due to inflammation. Wisdom teeth that are difficult to clean or that have not completely erupted from the gums cause repeated and later chronic inflammation and tend to become carious.

This is why selective wisdom tooth removal brings long-term relief from these problems. Diagnostics include an
orthopantomogram (OPT), an X-ray of the upper and lower jaw in the form of a semicircle from one ear to the other.

Our new Carestream OPT allows a precise image of the entire upper and lower jaw bone. The exact anatomical position of the wisdom teeth and their surrounding structures can be correctly assessed. This allows an exact clarification whether a removal is necessary, but also gives indication of the degree of difficulty associated with the tooth removal procedure.

Wisdom tooth removal can help correct current problems with wisdom teeth and prevent serious oral health problems that could develop in the future. We can perform wisdom tooth removals easily and safely here in Zurich, from the simplest wisdom tooth extractions to the most difficult cases.

Whether you are interested in having your wisdom teeth assessed in Zurich or you already know that they need to be extracted - we can help you. Make an appointment today for a wisdom tooth removal here in Zurich Seefeld.

Apicectomy / Root tip resection

What is an apicectomy?

It's a fairly simple procedure: an incision is made in the gum tissue to expose the bone and surrounding inflamed tissue. The damaged tissue is removed along with the end of the root tip. To prevent reinfection of the root, a root filling is put in and the gums are sewn. The bone naturally heals around the root over a period of months and restores full function.

The apicectomy is often the last chance to save a tooth if a root canal treatment has not been successful. In rare cases, the inflammation persists deep in the jawbone at the root tip of the tooth and causes severe pain.

Why should I need endodontic surgery?

Generally, one root canal is enough to save teeth with injured pulp from extraction. Occasionally, this non-surgical procedure is not enough to heal the tooth and your endodontist will recommend surgery.

Endodontic Oral Surgery Zurich can be used to localize fractures or hidden canals that are not visible on X-rays but still manifest pain in the tooth. Damaged root surfaces or the surrounding bone can also be treated with this procedure. The most common surgery to save damaged teeth is apicectomy or endodontic surgery.

Renewal of the root canal treatment

In order to preserve the tooth, a root canal treatment can in some cases be renewed, in some cases the apicectomy has to be preferred. In one session, the inflamed root tip is removed through a small access in the jawbone. We carry out this treatment in consultation with our patients when there is a real chance that the tooth will be preserved for a longer period of time.

After the procedure, discomfort or slight swelling may occur as the cut heals. This is normal for any surgical procedure. Appropriate pain medication is recommended to relieve the discomfort. If you have pain that does not respond to medication, please call our oral surgery practice in Zurich.
